F4P has been involved in delivering multiple projects over the past few years since its inception in 2020, including Consulting on Boola Katitjin’s $134m award winning project for Murdoch University, CSR Gyprocks Head office and Engineering offices within the Plant at Yarraville, Greater Western Water’s Sunbury Depot refurbishment, Compare and Connect Melbourne, CCP Wind Tunnel Engineers in Sydney and many more…. Below are some smaller projects that kicked it all off in early 2020!
CASE STUDY 1
Knowles Group
Suite 09 – Development Office – Design and Fitout.
F4P were engaged by The Knowles Group to design a space for the Arcare Aged Care Homes Design Team of 10, using an existing 130m2 empty space. Matt from F4P met with Group Director John Knowles and CEO Mike Carnell and discussed the teams needs and how they work, to develop a fit for purpose layout for 12 that best utilised the space.
Initial F4P sketches and FF&E recommendations became the guiding design for Knowles Group Architect Alison Withers to develop a detailed and embellished floor plan. Combining Alison’s further input to design, in collaboration with Matt at F4P, this incorporated contemporary sleek, dividers for meeting rooms and the same sleek fixture as a buffer between work and collaboration zones, on trend pendant lighting, the beautiful Blackbutt wall cladding and the funky recessed black ceiling tile ceiling. Further scope incorporated joinery benches for drawings storage, rear storage joinery shelving for finishes and samples, a copy room and improvements to an existing kitchen.
Finishes were work-shopped by F4P, in collaboration with Alison and the Knowles Group Design Team, utilising local BlackButt for timber finishes, combined with a neutral mix of blacks, white, grey and splashes of natural green, (courtesy of the Peace Lily’s), resulting in a beautiful, timeless fitout
The outcome an aesthetically pleasing, ergonomic and highly functional, fitout. The mix of sitting and bench high work and collaboration space, further enhanced by electric sit stand workstations, all recommended and sourced by F4P and supplied by the ever reliable AOFS, allow the Knowles Group / Arcare Team to easily collaborate on projects…John and the team love the successful outcome of Suite 09, and more importantly, love working, collaborating and now meeting clients in there!
CASE STUDY 2
TeamKids
Relocation to Braeside – Office Refurbishment – Design, Build, Fitout.
F4P were engaged to develop a solution for TeamKids relocation from their outgrown office in Moorabbin to a new home in Braeside. Their new space was very outdated, smelly and uninviting. Challenges around budget and timing, needing the space completed within a few months form the very first meeting, suited F4P’s Director Matt. He had often undertaken similar projects at RMIT and was well equipped to meet the challenge.
After an initial meeting with Founding Director of TeamKids, Sam Hoath, Matt and his team designed a concept layout and design, in collaboration with the client, leading to a detailed proposal with indicative costs, including a BCA Compliant layout, with FF&E suggestions, and options for staging the project, due to financial constraints, driven by the Covid situation. F4P were then chosen due partly to their attention to detail, understanding of workspace and TeamKids key requirements, objectives and overall experience elsewhere with such projects.
The project involved extensive repair and maintenance and overall design refresh and refurbishment, including new commercial grade carpet tiles and vinyl flooring, paint and replacement of ceiling tiles on the ground floor (from plasterboard ceiling tiles to acoustic ceiling tiles), a new for old refurbished kitchen, along with new LED lighting and pendant lighting to replace old out of date lighting, fitted out by JSW Electrical, along with new (and re-use/second-hand) quality furniture from AOFS, finished off with plants throughout, all sourced and installed by F4P. All of this was undertaken and adhered to, as per State Government Covid 19 Project delivery guidelines at the time.
One of the most pleasing and satisfying aspects of this fitout project, aside from the amazing transformation of an uninviting space into a beautiful working environment, was the collaboration with Sam and Teamkids on all details of the project. Finishes were scrutinised, revised as needed and helped lead to a result the client loved, because it was partly his design.
The outcome of 57 work-points, 4 dedicated meeting rooms and several casual meetings spaces, along with a Library / Quiet zone and new Kitchen breakout, has had a chorus of ‘wow’s’ from the TeamKids staff as they explored their new home. All the smells went with the old fittings, making their contemporary new space “a wonderland” for its users, all on time and on budget. The overall cost of this project was about half what you might expect.
